JAPAN NUCLEAR REACTOR AND ITS SURROUNDING COUNTRIES Threatens

Damaged nuclear reactor in Fukushima Japan after the earthquake and tsunami, have been very worrying. The threat of radiation have in a very dangerous level, especially when the reactor exploded.

Members of the National Energy Board (DEN) Prof Dr Tumiran said high heat resulting hydrogen explosion that resulted in leakage of radiation particles reach 400 milli sieverts per hour. Under normal conditions should be the number of radiation that appears is 3.6 milli sieverts per year.

"That number represents a number of very large and rare happened. In the number 100 milli sieverts course it is disturbing to health. Moreover, if up to 400 per hour. You can imagine the amount in one year," said Tumiran told reporters on the campus of the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM ) Indonesia, Wednesday (03/16/2011).

He said the effects of radiation which can cause serious impact to human health when his presentation long enough. When radiation penetrates the body it will ionize the weakest cell body like the reproductive organs, brain and blood cells.

"Ionization or illegal division of body cells can cause tissue damage. Cleavage wild also cause cancer and heredity disorders due to damage to DNA," said Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

He said the equivalent of heat generated depends on the residual fuel remaining in the reactors. Conditions of radiation exposure in Tokyo have reached 0.46 milli sieverts. While in normal circumstances only about 0.16 milli sieverts.

"The Japanese government is currently trying to do until the reactor exploded. If exploded, it means disaster for Japan and surrounding countries. The content of uranium is greater than the explosion could evaporate anywhere through the air in waves," he said.

According to the conditions that must be avoided in damage to nuclear reactors is the possibility of explosion due to high heat. The earthquake and tsunami has made the electric facilities and coolant pump is not working. Even storage of diesel fuel was also swept away by the tsunami.

"Although the 6 units in Fukushima reactor in shutdown condition and does not operate, but inside the reactor there was still some energy about 7 percent, so there is still hot. Here's what to watch out and the Japanese government is currently trying hard to do the cooling," says teacher GMU's major electrical engineering.
