Terrible! JAPANESE RADIOACTIVE WATER DISPOSAL TO SEA
TOKYO, KOMPAS.com - The Japanese government throwing more than 10,000 tons of contaminated water into the low-level radiation in the Pacific Ocean on Monday (4 / 4). This is done to stabilize the Nuclear Power Fukushima Daiichi problematic.
The Government of Japan with Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), nuclear power plant operator, had been struggling to prevent leakage of radiation to pour thousands of tons of water to cool the reactor core that is too hot. This effort to make water that is splashed became highly radioactive.
Overflow of water with high radioactivity was deter officers reactor refit, has even leaked into the soil and the sea. Therefore, Tepco must empty the ponds containing water with low radioactivity to accommodate the overflow of water is highly radioactive.
Tepco convincing, disposal of water which are sufficient to meet the four Olympic-size swimming pool was not to endanger life at sea. Radiation level of water being dumped into the sea carrying about 500 times the normal limit.
When it announced the disposal, Tepco spokesman apologized to the people of Japan. "We have caused great difficulties for local residents. We can not express how deeply sorry we do this, "he said.
Cabinet Secretary who serves as spokesman for the Government of Japan, Yukio Edano, adding, "We have no choice but to dispose of radioactive contaminated water into the sea as a security measure."
Tepco explains, efforts to cool the reactor core to make the highly radioactive water accumulated in the turbine building, especially in the Unit 2 reactor. "Disposal of water in storage ponds is very urgent to accommodate this additional water," the statement Tepco.
Radiation contamination has been found in air, soil and water around nuclear power plants. In smaller concentrations were also found vegetables, milk, meat, shiitake mushrooms and final radiation contaminated.
Workers use white salt solution to track leaks of radioactive water into the sea. Cracks in the underground tunnel for treatment that was found late last week confirmed that radioactive water had leaked into the surrounding environment.
The leak confirms the main difficulties NPP recovery efforts, namely radioactive water pooled around the reactor and prevents workers to recover the cooling system.
Present crisis recovery efforts helped engineer 1000 General Electric Company (GE) of the United States, who designed the six reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi.
Director of GE's Jeffrey Immelt in his visit to Japan said its engineers worked together to analyze the problem. Immelt also offers assistance to overcome the power shortage due to damage to a number of nuclear power plants. Japan predicted shortage of 10 million kilowatts at least next summer.
Protest
Japan's nuclear crisis has triggered protests and rejection of the world toward the use of nuclear energy. Claims that appear to question the security and safety of nuclear power plants.
Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano in nuclear security conference attended by 72 countries in Vienna, Austria, Monday, reminded the participants that this concern underestimate the industrial sector. "We can not run the approach of 'everything is working as usual'," he said.
Amano said the crisis in Japan, a major challenge and has broad implications for the utilization of nuclear energy. "Concerns about the security of millions of citizens of the world's nuclear energy should be taken very seriously," he said.
Amano said, the end of last year more than 60 IAEA member states to plan the utilization of nuclear energy. However, the nuclear accident in Fukushima make them reconsider this plan.
Germany announced it would close the old reactor, while Switzerland and China to delay new reactor licenses. Taiwan is studying to reduce their dependence on nuclear energy. (AP / AFP / WAS)

The Kennedys Premieres to Mixed Reviews
The Kennedys 8-hour miniseries premieres tonight on Reelz movie channel. The project had a hard time finding the light of day, and several reviewers weren’t all that impressed when it did.
The Kennedys was originally developed for the History Channel by Joel Surnow, creator of 24. The series was attacked by Kennedy associates and some historians before filming had even begun.
Similar to previous political television docudramas, such as The Reagans and The Path to 9/11, controversy surrounding the topic and content caused them to be pulled. The History Channel announced in January that it would be dropping the mini-series, citing the film was “not a fit” for its brand.
The show, starring Greg Kinnear as JFK and Katie Holmes as Jackie, was turned down by several networks before being picked up by cable movie channel Reelz. Bobby Kennedy is played by Barry Pepper and father Joseph Kennedy is portrayed by Tom Wilkinson. The story ends in 1969.

James Poniewozik of TIME calls the mini-series “pretty bad TV: melodramatic, rote and grim… the eight hours jerk from obligatory historical sense to familiar biographical moment, held together by the most clichéd theme: that this American dynasty reached great power at a great price.”
Sydney Roosters prop and State of Origin candidate Martin Kennedy wants to play for Queensland
Like Greg Inglis, Kennedy was born in northern NSW, but only wants to play for the Maroons.
"He's a Queenslander. He's already been earmarked by them," a Roosters insider said, after watching Kennedy steamroll Wests Tigers at the SFS.
Playing in just his 22nd NRL match after breaking into the Sydney Roosters squad last season, the 22-year-old scored his first try and generally terrorised the Tigers defence in a performance that had Anthony Minichiello talking up his Origin chances and both Brian Smith and Braith Anasta gushing with praise.
But while Kennedy, who went to school in Brisbane and played his junior football with Norths Ipswich, was happy to declare his colours, the modest front-rower was quick to dismiss his credentials, never mind his debut try in the 12th minute.

"A few things went my way so it's just lucky.
"I'm just happy that Smithy keeps picking me each week. If I can do enough to keep myself in the team I'm happy."
On a day when referee Tony Archer was bowled over trying to evade a runaway Todd Carney, Kennedy yesterday provided the grit in an engine room performance that Smith hailed as a benchmark for the side this year.
With Jason Ryles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala late scratchings, the 120kg prop took up the challenge to lead the pack and delivered just the performance Smith has been craving.
Twice he broke the line with barnstorming charges to scatter the defence and his try was like a runaway train. Roosters captain Anasta described him as "inspirational", while Minichiello rates Kennedy among the best young props in the game.
Forget the rep jumpers, all he cares about is pleasing the coach.
"I'm not really worried about that," he said. "The only bloke I'm worried about impressing is Brian Smith. If he's happy with me and I'm in the team each week I'm stoked."

Using Google's Motion Chart to visualize population trends, HOT NEWS !
In my Demographic Dashboard I have a scatter plot that shows the trend towards an aging society. Today I wanted to test the new Google Chart API and the Motion Chart with the same data set.
The chart displays the old dependency ratio against young dependency ratio. It clearly shows the shift from high ratios of young dependency to high ratios of old dependency specially in Europe and other developed countries. This means tough times ahead (the adult population will not be able to pay for social security systems, expensive medical care, etc.)
If you click a specific country a persistent label will allow you to track its evolution.
If you want to play with the chart click on it to go to the published spreadsheet or follow this link. [Update: you could play with the chart directly in the post but I was getting some problems with Microsoft Explorer so I decided to remove it.]
If you are not familiar with the demographic concepts, this is what you need to know to understand the chart:
* Old dependency ratio: ratio between population 65+ years old / adult population (15-64 yeas old);
* Young dependency ratio: ratio between population 0-14 years old / adult population (15-64 yeas old);
* Total dependency ratio is the sum of the above two.

Japanese Surrender, nuclear reactors will be Disabled
The Government of Japan and Tokyo Electronic Power Co. (Tepco) said that the crisis in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Fukushima Daiichi can no longer overcome. To that end, the four reactors at nuclear power plants will be immediately deactivated and ignored. MUST READ !
As quoted from the pages of The Guardian, Thursday, March 31, 2011, Director of Tepco, Tsunehira Katsumata, said that four nuclear reactors at the nuclear problem will be ignored because they did not efforts are also bearing fruit.
If continued, the business will take up for weeks, even months, with no certainty of the situation will return to normal. Katsumata said there was no other option but to ignore and disable the reactor units one to four in the nuclear power plant.
Deactivation and neglect will be conducted at four reactor units, but the fifth and sixth reactor units will still operate. Both reactors are located separately from the other four reactor units reported no damage, because it does not operate during the earthquake and tsunami occurred March 11 last.
However, the intention to maintain the two reactors was opposed by the government. Yukio Edano government spokesman, said that all the reactors in nuclear power plants have 40-year-old will be disabled. "This decision is very clear, look at the situation that developed at this time," said Edano.
Not sure when this will be done by disabling the government or by Tepco.
Deactivation decisions taken at the middle of the deteriorating situation in the nuclear power plant. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported a radiation coverage as far as 40 kilometers. The IAEA also saw an increase in radiation levels in the sea water around the plant.
Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of Japan (NISA) said as of Thursday, the level of radioactivity in the sea around nuclear power plants reached 4385 times higher than the normal limit. This figure rose on Wednesday after previously undetected radioactive 3355-fold higher than the normal limit. (

NUCLEAR REACTOR WORKERS PAID 20-fold, SEA WATER POLLUTION 3335 TIMES
The workers who survived to overcome the damage at the reactor Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Fukushima Daiichi reportedly paid handsomely. However, only a few employees who dare to risk his life to save Japan from the crisis more severe radiation.
As reported by the page the Daily Mail, Wednesday, March 30, 2011, nuclear power plant operator company previously offered salaries up to more than 100,000 yen per day, or about Rp10, 6 million, if the reactor would remain correct. Salaries are 20 times more than the normal salary workers before a crisis occurs.
However, only a handful of people who want to take this offer. A total of 200 people who lived a brave warrior named as nuclear. They spent the days at the nuclear power plant risk his life, fight with great risk.SEA VIEW AIR POLLUTION
The device they use reportedly is also not adequate. A few days ago, two workers burned his feet after going through a puddle of water containing plutonium. Wear their shoes were not covered until the top of the ankles.
Radiation levels at the site was also still not stable. Sea water and a few puddles of water that allegedly leaked from one of the reactors contain radiation levels of 1000 miliseverts per hour.
Shingo Kanno, a resident who offered to work helping in the reactor, said the company offered a big salary because the job was dangerous conscious. "They know the dangers, so they have to pay 20 times more than usual," Kanno said.
Kanno said he rejected the company's offer to stay, knowing the risks to be faced. "My wife and entire family opposed it because it is very dangerous," Kanno said.
The situation in the reactor is still far from improving. Radiation and leakage continues to increase, causing the risk of workers exposed to radioactive substances is very large. Registration on Friday last week showed radiation levels 1250 times higher than the normal limit.
Sea water outside the NPP is also rumored to have radioactive contamination. According to the test, the sea water at the site contains 3335 times more radiation than before the crisis.
